Ginga Beeya was one of my favorite drinks growing up. I can still remember the women in the street markets of Freetown selling freshly made ginger juice, each with her own recipe and distinctive flavor. Among them was one particular taste I loved so much that I never forgot it.

Years later, I found myself trying to recreate that same flavor in my own kitchen. My mom and neighbors became my first taste testers as I experimented with batch after batch, carefully adjusting the ingredients until I finally captured the taste I remembered. I wrote the recipe down, kept making it, and soon the people who had once been my taste testers began asking for bottles of their own.

Friends told friends. Neighbors became customers. And what began as a childhood favorite became Ginga Cottage.
